Main building
When additional space became necessary, another smoke cabin would be attached to the original one-room cabin, and a small entrance left between the two. This so called "paired cabin" used to also become the main building of the yard. The present oven model dates back to the end of the 19th C. It contains three separate hearths, allowing for a variety of cooking, and providing efficient heating and even lighting in the long dark winter period. The heat preserved by these large ovens has, in fact, shaped our food traditions in a significant way. For instance, various kinds of stews and foods which are kept at low temperature for a long period are typical of this district.
